Updates from Grade 1

Hi families! We are so excited to have welcomed Mrs.Woolnough into our classroom officially this week. We have been learning a lot about our feelings and how we can communicate our feelings in different ways. We read the story, In My Heart - A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC0jUuiHVyQ) and charted our feelings as a class. We talked about what each feeling meant, and shared reasons why we felt that way. We also learned what it means to be a "Purple Person". Ask me about how I am a purple person! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LviYLYVRScw) In math we are continuing to work on creating patterns using different attributes. We create, represent, and label our patterns. Ask me some different ways I can make a pattern with colors, shapes, or sounds! Also, we are beginning to investigate the signs of our season changing. We are reading a poem all about it, and going on a nature walk Thursday to use our 5 senses to discover more signs of Fall.  We lo...

This week at a glance

Hi families! We hope you are all having a lovely week. This week we have been busy learning about numbers that make sense in our lives. We talked about how many members are in our families, if we have any pets, how many letters are in our name, and how many minutes it takes us to get to school. We made so many great connections with friends in our class when we learned about these numbers in our lives too. Ask me about these important numbers in my life! This week I also did a paint wash on my heart map. Ask me what materials I made and the steps I did to make my picture pop! Important reminders: Library books are due back every Monday morning! We are a nut aware school. Please try to pack as nut-free as possible :) We look forward to seeing you next week at conferences! Mrs.Bradshaw and Mrs.Montgomery

Team work!

Hello families! Today we were busy learning how we work as a team in Grade 1. We are the red and blue team! We played parachute games outside and then brainstormed what we had to do to make the games successful. Ask me about some of the things we did to work as a team. Today we also learned about making connections to a story and to each other. We read We Are All Welcome. I would love to share the lightbulb I had about this story. Have a wonderful evening and see you for another great day of learning tomorrow :) Mrs.Bradshaw and Mrs.Montgomery

Be Who You Are!

Today students drew a self portrait to show how they looked UNIQUE from everyone else in our class.  Ask your child what DETAILS they included in their picture to make it look like them!   Here is a book that we read together today.  It is all about CELEBRATING WHO YOU ARE!  Click on the link: "Be Who You Are"
Hello Grade 1 families! It has been such a wonderful start to our Grade 1 journey. We have been busy enjoying the spaces inside and outside of our classroom. We are building a wonderful community in Rooms 126 and 127. We completed a scavenger hunt, read books about our feelings on the first day of school (and learned that teachers have first day jitters too!), colored our first grade sign, and enjoyed center time. Some of us were able to visit our music teacher, Mrs.Sayer, and we all had fun in gym with Mr.Dunlop! Ask me about one of these activities and I will share my ideas with you! Check out my backpack for my Grade 1 sign and snap a photo of me holding it so we can see how much I grow by the end of the year. We are so fortunate to have a beautiful shared double room in Grade 1. We will be taking advantage of our wonderful room and working as a Grade 1 team with Mrs.Montgomery and Mrs.Bradshaw. This means we get to spend time with even more friends in Grade 1 too! We are looki...
